Coolpad is trying something different.

The company has opened pre-orders in China for the  **Cool X Wide** , which it calls its first "wide-body candybar" phone — a device built around an unusually wide display rather than the tall, narrow proportions most phones use today.

## An Unusual Screen Shape

The headline feature is a **6.38-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio** and a  **90Hz refresh rate** . That's a much wider shape than the typical 20:9 or 19.5:9 panels on modern phones, and it changes how the device feels in hand: wider, shorter, and closer to the proportions of a small tablet.

## Hardware: Budget-Focused

Inside, the Cool X Wide runs on a **MediaTek Helio G99** — a 4G-only chip that's common in budget phones and fine for everyday tasks but not built for demanding gaming. It's paired with **LPDDR4X memory** and  **UFS 2.2 storage** , with configurations up to  **12GB + 256GB** . There's also a **microSD slot** supporting cards up to 256GB.

The battery is  **4,600mAh** , which is on the smaller side for a phone with a wide 6.38-inch screen, though the Helio G99 is relatively efficient.
